The Understudy

Cocktail list extract:

When one thinks of the theatre it is the glamour and the elitism that springs to mind. Beautiful actors grace the stage while wealthy people sit in the audience. All the while a team of talented yet forgotten souls work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure the show goes on night after night often with no credit and certainly no applause. It is only when the curtain goes down that this rag tag bunch gather to celebrate the end of a long hard shift, containing no pomp and circumstance this is truly where the party is at. Never before has any outsider had the chance to be involved in this blue collar revelry…until now…welcome to “The Understudy.”

If you have ever been fortunate enough to find the inconspicuous entrance to 1806, one of Melbourne’s most awarded and successful cocktail bars then you know that these guys don’t mind staying in the shadows and allow their fantastic service and beautifully crafted cocktails to do the talking. However, not content with creating an amazing atmosphere where patrons are given the full luxury treatment of table service the team at 1806 have decided to create a secret venue in the depths of their already hard to find location. Led by new managers Nick Reed and Andy Wren, both who have worked extensively in the U.K, The Understudy is the anti-establishment establishment that makes its own rules and breaks all others. Cheeky drinks like the “Barrel full of Monkeys” served in an actual Monkey Barrel complete with Monkey are the norm, whilst the Chorizo Fatwashed Bourbon Old Fashioned served in a Hickory Smoke filled vintage bottle is not for the faint hearted.
